  ALTAR FLOWERS honor the 30 year anniversary of Rev. Dr. Geoffrey G. Drutchas  

  and the ordination of Ethan C. Drutchas, nephew of Rev. Geoffrey Drtuchas. 

 

  SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP services are 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. Nursery care is in

  the Family Room and church school for all other youth is upstairs during the 10:30

  service.  Please join the St. Paul Congregation for refreshments in our Fellowship Hall

  immediately following our 9:00 a.m. worship service hosted by our Sewing Guild.    

 

 ORDINATION SERVICE The Detroit Metro Association of the United Church of Christ has approved our “under care” seminarian Ethan Drutchas for ordination today at 4:00 p.m. Join us for a very special service followed by food, fellowship and activities.  

 

 RUMMAGE SALE DONATIONS SOUGHT —Volunteers Needed for Set-Up, Sale,

 and Clean-Up. The annual St. Paul Fall Rummage Sale is Thursday through Saturday,

 October 4-6. Rummage donations are welcome (9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and can be placed

 at the rear of Fellowship Hall.  It is important that all donations be clean and in a good

 state of repair. Rummage sale set-up begins Wednesday, September 26, with ‘Blue Jean

 Sunday’ on September 30. You are encouraged to come that morning dressed in work

 clothes, ready to pitch in. To volunteer, please contact Woman’s Fellowship or the church

 office (313- 291-1221). All proceeds support church- related projects.

 

 2019 PHONE DIRECTORY  We are beginning preparations for our 2019 Phone

 Directory. If you have moved, added a new family member or changed your phone

 number, please notify the Church Office.  If you don’t want your cell phone number listed

 in the directory, you will need to notify us in advance.  Your help in keeping our data up-

 to-date will make for a more accurate Directory.  Thanks in advance for your support.

 

ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TOUR of historic churches will be Thursday, October 11. Five historic Catholic and Protestant churches are on our itinerary. Cost is $30 per person, not including lunch (Polka Restaurant, Troy). Pastor Geoff Drutchas will lead the tour with docents meeting us at most of the locations to provide historical background and information about current ministries. The tour is open to family and friends. Our comfortable chartered bus with lavatory will depart from the St. Paul Church parking lot at 8 a.m. and return no later than 6 p.m. We are currently at capacity and are beginning a ‘wait list.’  Please contact the church office for more information.

 

SEWING GUILD’S next meeting will be September 20, 2018 at 10 a.m. Bring a sandwich.  Coffee and dessert are provided. No sewing experience is required. Join us for fellowship and Food for Thought!

 

THE ST. PAUL CHANCEL CHOIR is resuming its weekly Wednesday rehearsals.

Starting time is 7:00 p.m. Note-A-Bell Hand Bell Choir will resume at a later date.  Their

rehearsal time is 6 p.m. Rehearsals will be led by Music Director Tracy Hoffman.  New

voices are always welcome.

 

NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED Sunday, October 28, 2018.  Those interested in joining St. Paul Church are encouraged to contact Pastor Geoff Drutchas at the church office or complete a Make-A-Wish card (found in the pew racks) and drop it in an offering plate or give it to any usher.

 

COFFEE HOUR DRINK SPILLS HAVE BECOME A CONCERN.  Please help us   

   avoid drink spills.  Lids are provided during our Coffee Hour for your beverages if you   

   would like to leave the hall with your drink.  We have noticed many areas in the building

   where beverages were spilled. We would like to keep our building looking as nice as we  

   can. Your help is greatly appreciated.  Thank You, Building & Grounds Ministry.

 

E-MAIL CHANGES  If your e-mail address has changed in the last 6 months please notify the Church Office at (313) 291-1221.  We utilize E-mail addresses of approximately 290 members and friends in our current e-mail notification system.  It is the easiest way to stay up-to-date on events at St. Paul.  Your help is essential in maintaining an accurate and up-to-date list.

 

HEALTH MINISTRIES - Exercise Classes – Our exercise session has begun Mondays   

  and Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Shalom – Chronic disease group meeting. Our meeting is  

  October 8th at 1:00 p.m.  Caregivers - Meet for mutual support. The Caregivers Group

  will meet on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The first gathering is  

  September 17. Caregiving tips will be shared by participants who offer mutual support on

  a confidential basis. Pastor Geoff Drutchas leads the sessions, assisted by Parish Nurse

  Kathy Williams. The group is open to everyone. Health/Medical supplies – If you have

  or need medical supplies, such as walkers, wheelchairs, please contact parish nurse, Kathy   

  Williams or the office.     

 

“REDUCING THE RISK” Training Class Rescheduled – Sunday, September 30

St. Paul Child Protection Policy requires that all adults 18 years and older, who work with children more than 10 hours a year, complete the “Reducing the Risk” Training Class and fill out an application which includes a formal Criminal Back-ground Check, every two years.  The class learns the specifics of the St. Paul Policy regarding working with children and tips and information on how to handle situations as they arise.  This year’s class has been rescheduled to Sunday, September 30, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. in the Church Parlor.  If you have questions regarding this mandatory training, please contact Cheryl Schalm or Dan Case.            

 

   CONFIRMATION CLASSES have begun. They will be enjoying a kick-off retreat to  

   Amish country in Shipshewana, Indiana Friday and Saturday, September 21 and 22. Our  

   confirmands will be meeting Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday evenings at

   7:00 p.m. all the way to next Easter.   

 

   CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL GRADS, COLLEGE & TRADE SCHOOL

   STUDENTS  Christian Education needs all college, trade school, and “2018” High

   School graduate addresses.  We would like your picture to include on our “YOUNG

   ADULT, MOVING FORWARD” bulletin board.  Please forward all information and

   pictures to Pastor Cheryl Schalm. 

 

  ALTAR GUILD has a couple of opportunities for volunteers to maintain (fill) the altar  

  candles weekly and to ensure the paraments (cloths on the lectern and pulpit) are changed

 accordingly.  There are no meetings to attend.  All materials and training are provided at

  your convenience.  For more information please contact Arlene Felske or Sue Mrowka.

 CHILDREN’S CHOIR REHEARSALS begin October 7 following the 10:30 service in the West Room. Please see Sally Sigman, Director, for more information.

 

THERE’S STILL ROOM FOR YOU at the Women’s Retreat October 6 and 7. Led by April Clark, Michelle McNeely, and Eileen Vernor Drutchas, this fall’s theme is “Kindness”. The retreat provides an opportunity for women of faith to share time together and reflect on how we can act on God’s call to kindness amid everyday life. Michindoh Conference Center, near Hillsdale, provides a scenic setting, as well as comfortable indoor facilities. Count on indoor and outdoor activities. We will be carpooling from St. Paul Saturday at 7 a.m. The retreat begins at 10 a.m. The cost is $97 and includes three meals and one night of lodging. A $20 non-refundable deposit will assure your place.  Balance is due by Wednesday, September 12. Your retreat deposit, and completed reservation form, should be returned to Retreat Registrar Marjie Barnard.  

KICK-OFF FOR Youth Fellowship is October 7 with lunch and activity planning follow-ing our 10:30 a.m. service.  Parents are invited to attend.  Fall retreat is November 3 and 4 – save the date!

 

THIRSTY THURSDAYS converts to Worship Wednesdays  Young adult Fellowship. The next gathering is Wednesday, September 19, 6:00 p.m. at Mexican Gardens.  The agenda is to discuss some outreach opportunities.  We’ll resume meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 7:00 p.m. at Pastor Schalm’s house. Sunday, October 7 is Kayaking the Huron River.  RSVP by September 23 to Pastor Schalm.
