  By your power, great God, our Lord Jesus healed the sick and gave new hope to

  the hopeless.  Though we cannot command or possess your power we pray for

  those who want to be healed.  Mind their wounds, soothe fevered brows, and make

  broken people whole again.  Help us to welcome every healing as a sign that,

  through death is against us, you are with us, and have promised renewed and risen

  life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Bless these waters by which we anoint those who

  desire this day healing in body and spirit.  Amen.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED Sunday, October 28, 2018.  Those interested in joining St. Paul Church are encouraged to contact Pastor Geoff Drutchas at the church office or complete a Make-A-Wish card (found in the pew racks) and drop it in an offering plate or give it to any usher.

 

 OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED OFFERING  will be received any Sunday throughout

 the month of October.  This offering is one of our United Church of Christ Special

 Mission Offerings that assists our American Indian Ministries and supports education,

 justice, peace, and the rights of the poor and needy.  Information about the NIN Offering

 and an envelope will be included in your October Tidings.  You will also find NIN

 envelopes in the pew racks.  On behalf of the Stewardship of St. Paul, please give as

 generously as you are able, to those in need.  Thank you.

 

 OUR SECOND ANNUAL Spaghetti Dinner is Friday, November 2, 4:30 - 7:00

 p.m.  Dinner choices are either Marinara or Alfredo sauce on your pasta, a salad bar with

 all the fixings, rolls, dessert, and beverages. It’s a great event to share with friends and

 family.  Advanced tickets are available at the kiosk table during coffee hour beginning

 Sunday, October 7 or by contacting the church office at (313) 291-1221. Tickets will be

 available at the door the night of the dinner. Cost is $10.00 for adults, $4.00 for children

 5 to 12 children, 4 and under are free.

 

 HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE RESTROOMS AND CHANGING ROOM SPACE is available through the side door at the east rear of the sanctuary just before the entrance to our new “Family Room”.  Please alert the ushers if you need assistance.

   CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL GRADS, COLLEGE & TRADE SCHOOL

   STUDENTS  Christian Education needs all college, trade school, and “2018” High

   School graduate addresses.  We would like your picture to include on our “YOUNG

   ADULT, MOVING FORWARD” bulletin board.  Please forward all information and

   pictures to Pastor Cheryl Schalm. 

 

   ALTAR GUILD has an opportunity for a few volunteers to maintain the altar candles  

   and to ensure the paraments (cloths on the lectern and pulpit) are changed accordingly. 

   There are no meetings to attend.  All materials and training are provided at your conven- 

   ience.  For more information please contact Arlene Felske or Sue Mrowka.  

 

 USHERS NEEDED to assist with our Sunday morning worship services. Friendly faces  

 help present a welcoming atmosphere to both members and visitors. Written instructions  

 are available, and training can be arranged. Anyone interested may speak with the pre-

 siding deacon or Pastor Drutchas.

 

   HEALTH MINISTRIES - Exercise Classes – Our exercise session is Mondays and  

   Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Our instructor, Delessa, is a wonderful trainer with a   

   Christian philosophy.  A donation of $3-5 for each session is invited.  Chronic Pain  

   Self-Management Class- begins Tuesday, November 6 from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. in the  

   West Room.  Our six-week session will provide tips and techniques. To register contact:   

   the NKFM (734) 222-9800 or PATHprograms@nkfm.org.  Caregivers - Meet for

   mutual support. The Caregivers Group will meet on the third Monday of each month at

   7:30 p.m. The next gathering is October 29. Caregiving tips will be shared by participants

   who offer mutual support on a confidential basis. Pastor Geoff Drutchas leads the

   sessions, assisted by Parish Nurse Kathy Williams. The group is open to everyone.  

   Health/Medical supplies – If you have or need medical supplies, such as walkers,  

   wheelchairs, please contact parish nurse, Kathy Williams or the office.  TOPS (Take Off  

   Pounds Sensibly), is a nonprofit and noncommercial weight loss support group St. Paul  

   is hosting Chapter 9744, Taylor. Meetings are Monday nights with weigh in starting at

   6:00 p.m. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 7:15 p.m., in the West Room. The first

   visit is free with no obligation.  FLU SHOT CLINIC Thursday, October 18, 7:00-8:45  

   p.m. in the West Room.  A pharmacist will give the shot.  There are free vouchers

   available.  The cost is $25 if insurance doesn’t cover the cost or we run out of free

   vouchers.  Please bring your insurance card with you.  Minimum age is 7 years.  A senior  

   dose is available.  Sign up in the church office by October 10.  

 

 RED HOT PURPLE ANGELS  October 25 – Halloween Bunco & Potluck Dinner–  

 6:30 p.m. in the  West Room. Bring $5. Bunco is easy you don’t have to know how to   

 play ahead of time. Wear a costume or Halloween shirt. Bring a dish of your choice.  

 There is a sign-up sheet on the RHPA Bulletin Board. Kathy Williams is the contact.  

 Looking ahead to November, we visit a church member’s house to see a large, unique

 salt & pepper collection. We will be able to bring snacks and BYOB.

 

   PRAYER LUNCHEON Tuesday, October 25  The International Health and Hope  

   Coalitionis hosting a luncheon 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Tabernacle Missionary  

   Baptist Church in Detroit.  We will carpool from St. Paul at 10:15 a.m.  Dr. Edna Rose is  

   the key speaker along with a panel discussion.  The topic is “Dementia:  Memories,  

   Thinking and Behavior.”  Register at www.InterfaithHealthCoalition.org or contact  

   Kathy Williams.  Let Kathy know if you have registered and/ or would like to carpool.

2019 PHONE DIRECTORY  We are beginning preparations for our 2019 Phone

 Directory. If you have moved, added a new family member or changed your phone

 number, please notify the Church Office.  If you don’t want your cell phone number listed

 in the directory, you will need to notify us in advance.  Your help in keeping our data up-

 to-date will make for a more accurate Directory.  Thanks in advance for your support.

 

  Christian Education is sponsoring their annual “Advent by Candlelight” program Sunday,

  December 2, from 6:45-8:45 p.m.  One woman hosts a table and asks up to 7 other ladies to

  join her for our advent program, fellowship and dessert.  There is a sign-up sheet available

  during coffee hour through October and November, or you can call or email Debbie Case.

  (debbiescase@aol.com)  It is quite easy to be a hostess and I will have envelopes for each

  hostess with all the information.  There’s another sign-up sheet for ladies that do not want

  to host a table but would like to attend.  We will do our best to find a place for every lady

  that would like to attend.   Deadline to sign up is Sunday, Nov. 18th.  I will need to know

  total numbers at each table by November 25.  The table arrangement in the hall is based

  on the order that you sign your group up by.  I will be out of town a lot in October, you will

  be better able to sign up by emailing me and then I can email the hostess papers to you.
