    Lord, we come before you today and we thank You for all the blessings that

    You have given us.  Many times our lives are so full of busy work that we          

    neglect our relationship with You, for that we are sorry.  We know that You          

    never neglect us, for if You did our very lives would cease to be.  Continue to

    pull us to Yourself, guide us in our journey, and hold us close in Your bosom

  HOLY COMMUNION IS OFFERED THIS MORNING.  Our congregation  

 welcomes to the Lord’s Supper all adult, baptized Christians, regardless of Christian  

 affiliation.  What’s simply asked is that during Holy Communion all participants  

 maintain a reverent silence that affirms the dignity of the sacrament.

 West Room immediately following our morning worship service, hosted by our Health 

 Ministries.

    PASTOR GEOFFREY DRUTCHAS will be on vacation the month of August.  In case 

    of Pastoral emergency, please contact Pastor Cheryl Schalm or Parish Nurse, Kathy 

    Williams.  A single worship service and Summer Sunday School is held at 9:30 a.m. and  

    continues through Sunday, September 4th.   Nursery care is also available at that time.   

  

    ST. PAUL CO-ED SOFTBALL TEAM FINISHES IN SECOND PLACE. Congratulations to our softball team and their fans who came out to cheer them on to 

    their second place finish in the league playoffs.  See you next May!

  fifth grade will meet together in the upstairs’ West Room. Older youth will meet with  

  Pastor Schalm in the Senior High classroom.  Curriculum, materials and snacks are  

  provided.

   A HUGE ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who led a Sunday School lesson and shared their 

   faith with the children of St. Paul during our Summer Sunday School program. ​ The 

   donation of your time makes a positive impact on the lives of our children.  Christian  

   Education is in need of Fall Sunday School teachers to lead the Pre-school/ Kindergarten  

  class​ and to assist with the 4th/5th grade class. All interested should contact Pastor Schalm.   

 RED HOT PURPLE ANGELS Wednesday, August 16th is a tour of the Cranbrook 

 house and gardens.  Lunch is at 11:00 a.m. followed by the tour.  We will carpool from

 St. Paul at 10:00 a.m.  Cost is $30.  You can also purchase your ticket online.  See your 

 July/ August Tidings for more information. 

   HEALTH MINISTRIES - Exercise Classes - Exercise is important to our health. We are  

   doing enhanced fitness at 12 noon on Monday, August 7 & 14; and Wednesday, August 2  

   & 9th in the West Room unless otherwise advertised.  Can be done standing or sitting.

   Shalom – Chronic disease group meeting. Our next meeting August 14th at 1 PM. Check  

   the Morning Tide for additional information regarding topics and/or speakers.  

   Health/Medical supplies –If you have or need medical supplies, such as walkers, wheel-

   chairs, please contact our parish nurse, Kathy Williams, or the office


 
  A great big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped to make this year’s Annual   

   Summer Picnic such a huge success, there are just too many people to list all the

   names.  A fun time was had by all who attended.  There were many different activities  

   for all ages, a vendor arcade and great food.

    for providing the large tent and chairs used for our Picnic Sunday worship service and 

     activities on Picnic Sunday, July 30, 2017.

 

  SEWING GUILD Sew ’n Sews  ​Please join us for a little sewing and a lot of  

  fellowship at our next meeting on Thursday August 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.  Bring a  

  sandwich for lunch, dessert and coffee is provided.  P/S: No sewing skill required!

 

  CALLING ALL HIGH SCHOOL GRADS, COLLEGE & TRADE SCHOOL STUDENTS

 
Christian Education is in need of all college, trade school, and “2017”  

  High School graduate addresses.  In addition, we would like your picture to include on  

   our “YOUNG ADULT, MOVING FORWARD” bulletin board.  Please forward all  

   information and pictures to Pastor Cheryl Schalm.

 

   CONFIRMATION CLASSES TO BEGIN  Put-in-Bay Retreat Planned.  Fall will  

   be arriving sooner than we know with the resumption of confirmation classes on  

   Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.  The classes meet from September  

   through Easter, prepare our young people to affirm their baptism vows by making a  

   personal decision for Christ as young adults.  Classes culminate in a moving Palm  

   Sunday service at the end of the second year of study.  This year’s classes will kick  

   off with an orientation and ice cream social on Wednesday, September 6, 7 p.m.,  

   followed Saturday, September 9th with a day-long retreat at Put-in-Bay.  The retreat

   provides a chance for confirmands to get to know each other as we share an  

   adventurous day, beginning with a boat ride across Lake Erie to South Bass Island.  We  

   will be biking around the island with stops at various locations that tie-in with a  

   “scriptural itinerary” prepared by Pastor Geoff Drutchas.  One of the stops will include  

   a boat ride across the Put-in-Bay Harbor to visit the Ohio State University Marine  

   Biology Laboratory on Gibraltar Island.  We will view the marine biology laboratory  

   and visit Cooke Castle.  Pastor Drutchas leads the retreat along with parent chaperones.   

   All eighth and ninth graders are invited to enroll for confirmation classes.  Please  

   encourage your child or grandchild to participate in a wonderful program that offers  

   strong, positive peer fellowship and an opportunity to grow in a deeper understanding  

ANNUAL ALL CHURCH KITCHEN CLEAN-UP DAY SCHEDULED  The St. Paul Building and Grounds Ministry will be hosting its Annual Kitchen Clean-up on Saturday, August 19th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 pm.  All cleaning supplies and special equipment will be provided; all you need to do is come to the church in your work cloths ready to help clean. Please plan on coming to help even if you can only stay for one hour all help will be greatly appreciated.  If you have any questions please contact Gary Staffeld or Dan Case or call the Church office at 313-291-1221.

  OUR NEW E-MAIL SYSTEM is now functional, and as a member you can now

   add us to your contact list to ensure that you are receiving all the Church announcements.

  YOUNG MARRIED MINISTRY  “Paddle the Battlefield” Outing Saturday, August 

  26th at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park in Brownstown.  Depart at 1:00 p.m. 

  Takes approximately 90 minutes. Kayaks and safety gear are provided.  Spots are limited.  

  Last day to sign up is Monday, August 7th.  Contact is Pastor Cheryl Schalm.

  USHERS NEEDED - We are seeking additional members to assist as Ushers for our 

  Sunday morning worship services. This volunteer activity is extremely important. 

  Friendly and efficient Ushers help St. Paul present a welcoming atmosphere to both 

  Church members and visitors. Written instructions are available and training can be 

  arranged at your request.  Anyone interested in being placed on our Usher Volunteer list 

  may speak with the presiding deacon on Sunday mornings or contact Kristi Caruso by 

  phone call (586-876-4308) or text and she will contact you regarding any questions or  

  concerns you may have.

  THE OFFICE IS COLLECTING NAMES & ADDRESSES of soldiers currently

  deployed overseas for a “Soldiers Around the World” outreach program.  Church  

  member, Betty Caufield, volunteers for this important project which sends food and care  

  packages to men and women in our Armed Services who are defending our nation and

  upholding peace abroad.  Please complete a Make-A-Wish card (found in the pew racks) 

  with the name and address of an overseas soldier you know who can benefit from this 

  caring outreach.
