Invocation delivered by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey G. Drutchas at the Downriver Prayer Breakfast, Crystal Gardens, Southgate, Michigan

O God, we assemble, men and women together, hundreds strong, to testify by our very gathering to your grace and to your love revealed in Jesus. Though foolish we may often be, you have given the wisdom to know that you alone are our hope and our true strength and that only through you is the promise of our salvation realized. We thank you that you do not forsake us. We thank you that your forgive us. We rejoice that in Jesus you gave us a victory over all that is dark and despairing, evil and hopeless. In the hour of our gathering, bless us as we share breakfast, enjoy music, and listen to the inspired words of those sustained and led by your Word. Make this prayer breakfast an occasion in which we are reunited and renewed in your spirit to serve you in the world. In Jesus Christ, Amen.

An invocation delivered by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey G. Drutchas for a Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary gathering at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Taylor

"Faith, hope and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." -1 Corinthians 13:13

"Grow old along with me. The best is yet to be: the last for which the first was made!" - Robert Browning

O Loving God: Rejoicing we gather to celebrate fifty years of marriage for this couple. Amid all our happiness and revelry this day we invoke your grace and ask for your continued blessing upon them as husband and wife. Abide with them in all the days to come and so renew them in their covenant with each other that their lives may ever be a witness to your love for us. In whatever lies ahead, grant them mutual patience and fortitude, as well as a willingness to always forgive, that they might meet every challenge of life with faith, hope, and love. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

An invocation delivered by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey G. Drutchas for the inauguration of the Taylor Little League Baseball Season

O God, loving Creator: As we mark, on a fresh and beautiful day, the start of a new Little League Baseball season in Taylor we invite your blessing upon our festivities. In so doing we also ask that you keep all of our Little League players, coaches, and families in your constant, abiding grace. Make this a season in which our young people, guided by adults, not only grow in physical stature and the skill to hit a homerun or catch a wild fly ball but also the sportsmanship and sense of fair play that respects others and honors you. May your greater purposes be served in the joy, laughter, and learning of games well-played in wonderful weeks ahead. Amen.

December 3, 2009

An invocation delivered by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey G. Drutchas for an Annual Meeting of the Beautification Council of Southeastern Michigan, December 3, 2009

O Gracious God: Since Eden's day, when you cast us into the world, you have called us to be the stewards of your creation. Yet, time and again, how short we have fallen in honoring the integrity of everything that you entrust to our care! Help us to appreciate anew that there is no escape from whatever mess and spoil we leave in our wake. Open our eyes to the endangered beauty in our midst which needs to be cultivated, protected and preserved not only as a benefit for us but as a tribute to you. Fill us with a fresh understanding of our responsibility to sow, tend, and grow that we might pass on in your name for all generations to come an earth as beautiful as you created it and a landscape more pristine than we found it. Amen.
