Prayers for the Auto Industry
January 13, 2006
Invocation delivered by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey G. Drutchas for the Detroit Auto Show Luncheon at the Economic Club of Detroit, Cobo Center
O Lord, it's been said that the Motor City put the world on wheels. But long before then you brought us forth from mere dust and set us on this earth to be your creative servants. So in humbleness now we turn to you and ask: What next, Lord, what next? At a time of juncture when the future looms rich in promise but the way ahead seems less certain for us, all across the globe, what would you have us do? How would you have us shape the future to the good so we don't end up just spinning our wheels? In the midst of all that is to come, dear Lord, these things we simply pray: That you might ever renew us in a clearer vision and deeper enthusiasm for the work that we do, keeping us mindful that even in mundane tasks your higher purposes can be served. Amen.

Invocation delivered by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey G. Drutchas for the Unveiling of the North American Car & Truck of the Year Finalists, Cobo Center
O God, by indelible design you created, out of nothing, everything we know and enjoy. Then you blessed us with the impulse to create and build. Today, as we commend those who have used their talents and inspiration well, keep us mindful that, in all of our human ingenuity, innovation, and industry, we are called to leave this world a better place than we found it so that your greater purposes for us might be honored and served. Amen.
